RESIST

Tamarack Resort is situated just outside idyllic Donnelly, Idaho.  Located about two hours north of Boise, Donnelly and the surrounding Valley County is the definition of a "hidden gem."  There are lakes, mountains, endless trails among towering evergreens, and the scattered small towns are filled with people who actually recognize each other in the grocery store; small-town USA.  

But the Tamarack owners are not local, they’re not greeting their neighbors in the grocery store.  Tamarack Resort was recently bought out by commercial real estate and private equity firms from Florida and Georgia.  The entire operation in Tamarack is now overseen by lobbyists and real estate agents.  

And, not surprisingly, these out-of-state institutions, along with their newly-minted cronies, immediately set about turning the entire mountain into an exclusive paradise for the uber-rich.  They want to basically quadruple the size of the ski resort by gobbling up 3,300 acres of public lands.  Such a massive sequestration of our public domain could turn this sleepy, quaint resort into one of the top ten largest in all of North America.  They plan to bulldoze and raze thousands and thousands of trees so they can put a year-round 10,000 square-foot monstrosity on the top of Lone Tree Summit, add a half-dozen new lifts, a gondola, and a via ferrata, among other paid-for amenities.  

Well, here at LOLA we don't take kindly to selfish dolts who seek to rake in profits off our public resources.  That is especially true when it means that the population in Donnelly will suffer through increased rents, higher taxes, immense strain on public infrastructure, loss of jobs to seasonal non-locals, among so many other documented negative impacts to their quality of life.  

Tamarack's expansion will destroy parts of the forest, restrict access to public lands, and harm the local community.  So who benefits? The fly-by-night out-of-state developers and firms.
